HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE GAMES

The game against the Dodgers was primarily won by our pitching staff. Three pitchers combined to throw a 1-hit shutout and strike out 14 Dodgers while walking just 5. Dustin Earnhardt started the game and pitched a good 2 innings striking out 4, walking 1, hitting 2 batters and allowing 1 hit. He left the game with a sore elbow. He is expected to miss his next start on Tuesday. Tommy Barrett went to the mound in the 3rd and struck out the side in a 1-2-3 inning. Tommy also struck out the side in the 4th after opening the inning with back-to-back walks. Then in the 5th Tommy again set the Dodgers down 1-2-3, striking out the side. Tommy's line for the game was 3 innings, no hits, no runs, 2 walks and 9 strikeouts. It was a dominating display sure to have coaches scrambling to find a solution. Doogle Ritzert pitched a 1-2-3 6th inning to end the game. He struck out one and got the other 2 outs on weakly hit balls.-----The offense was lead by a 3-for-3 performance by Chris Drake. Chris singled twice and doubled and scored 2 runs. Andy Redmon and Dustin Earnhardt both had two hits. The highlight of the game though was a 1st inning homerun by Chad Wages. The 2-run blast to right center field put the Angels ahead 3-0 and it was never close again. Also getting in on the 12-hit attack were Doogle Ritzert, Tommy Barrett and Eric Puckett.------All-in-all, the season opener was a smashing success. The Angels play again on Tuesday, March 23 against the Yankees, who defeated the Reds Saturday.
